Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
